Lorris Herenda is the Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Brick House. She joined Yellow Brick House in 2004 and has doubled the agency scope in delivery of shelter services, community counselling and supportive services. Lorris is the co-chair of the York Region Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee and Treasurer of the board of Ontario Association Interval and Transitional Housing (OAITH). She is the 2013 recipient of the Attorney General Victim Services Award of Distinction. In 2012 and 2008, she won the Province of Ontario award “Leading Women, Building Communities” for her exceptional community leadership to improve the lives of women and girls in Ontario. In 2021, she has been nominated for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award in 2021.
Laura Bowes joined Yellow Brick House as the Business Manager in 2015. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than twenty years of experience in the charitable sector, serving on Boards of Directors, Finance Committees and Governance Committees. Laura manages a broad range of responsibilities including management of financial processes including budgeting, reporting, analyses, and payroll; operational efficiency; assessment and mitigation risks; compliance with statutory requirements and reporting; and policy development and compliance. She is passionate about working collaboratively with teams and organizations dedicated to making a difference in the world.
Business Manager
Boasting over two decades of experience in the non-profit sector, Pamela Deveaux is a seasoned professional deeply dedicated to community service. Serving as the Manager of Fund Development at Yellow Brick House, she strategically employs her skills to raise awareness for women and children escaping domestic violence. Pamela actively cultivates partnerships with both corporations and individuals, effectively securing vital funds that significantly bolster the ongoing fight against domestic violence and abuse. Her passion is centered on assisting survivors in rebuilding their lives while simultaneously empowering others to break the silence surrounding domestic violence. Her unwavering commitment is further evident in her dedicated efforts to enlighten communities about healthy relationships and support families as they navigate rebuilding their lives.
Fund Development, Manager
Christine Ruchlewicz is a seasoned management professional who joined Yellow Brick House as the Manager, Direct Services in 2021. As a dedicated advocate, Christine has devoted her career to improving the lives of marginalized communities. She has led transformative initiatives that have enhanced service delivery and expanded access to resources for vulnerable populations. Christine believes in empowering others to reach their full potential and is deeply passionate about creating a more equitable inclusive society. With her leadership she continues to inspire positive change and make lasting impact in the lives of those she serves. She believes in the power of collaboration and strives to build stronger partnerships to create lasting change.
Direct Services, Manager
Dedicated to providing support and services to families, women and children; Gaya Sockalingam has joined Yellow Brick House as Manager of Direct Services. With over fifteen years of experience in managing community programs that offer support in early learning and infant mental health, life skills development, housing stabilization, education, employment and community engagement initiatives; she provides leadership and direction to the Shelters, Quality Accreditation roles, and a successful Volunteer Program. Committed to strategic planning, community engagement and optimal service delivery; Gaya oversees a trauma-informed system of service delivery for the survivors of domestic violence through counseling support, and programming. Driven by her passion and experience, she will continue to promote and participate in initiatives that support the creation of connected, safe and strong communities.
Direct Services, Manager
Anastasia Protocky joined Yellow Brick House as HR Manager after a long career in the automotive industry. With extensive experience in managing a full spectrum of human resources programs including enhancing human capital through coaching, development, health and safety, succession planning, talent acquisition, labour relations, and continuous improvement to ensure the health and robustness of short- and long-term organizational performance. With a people first approach, and new appreciation of the non-profit sector, particularly in anti-oppressive and trauma informed frameworks, Anastasia’s focus will be to enhance and systematically improve the HR functions to help support our overall strategic plan with a particular focus on development of individual, team and leadership excellence.
